These terms cover your use of Cholochitro Diary, a diary for Bengali films and an initiative by the West Bengal Film Provenance Lab. By creating an account or using the site, you agree to them.
Cholochitro Diary lets you browse Bengali-language films, rate and review them, build lists, keep a watchlist, and follow other users. Today it's free to use, with no ads and no paid tiers. Ads are planned, along with an optional donation that turns them off for a while; a donation will never be a subscription and will never renew by itself. Before any of that arrives, these terms will be updated, and the date above with them.
You sign up with a username, an email address, and a password. Usernames are unique. Once one is taken, nobody else can register it. Keep your password and your email inbox secure: either one is enough to get into your account, since a password reset is emailed to you. You're responsible for activity under your account.
We email you a verification link when you sign up. Until you click it you can sign in and browse, but you can't post reviews, build lists, keep a watchlist, like, or follow anyone. A banner stays up until you're verified, with a button to resend the link. Accounts are otherwise open to anyone: no invitation code, waitlist gate, or approval step.
Your profile is public. Use a display name, picture and links that are yours to use: don’t pretend to be someone else, and don’t upload a photo you don’t have the right to share. You can change your username once every 30 days. Links to your old username lead to your profile for 90 days, and during that time nobody else can take it; after that it may be taken by someone else. Some usernames are reserved and can’t be chosen. We may remove a profile picture or cover image that breaks these terms.
You can follow other members, and they can follow you; who follows whom is public. If someone bothers you, you can block them, which ends any follow between you and stops either of you interacting with the other’s reviews, comments and lists, or mute them, which only hides them from you. The Privacy Policy says exactly what each one does. Blocking is not a replacement for reporting: a member, review or comment that breaks these terms can still be reported to us.
Reviews, ratings, lists, and anything else you post remain yours. By posting it publicly, you grant Cholochitro Diary a license to display it on the platform (and, if you enable indexing on a review, to let it be indexed by search engines and AI answer engines). That license lasts only as long as the content does: delete your account and it ends with it. You're responsible for what you post. Don't post anything illegal, harassing, or something you don't have the right to share.
You can take your content with you at any time, and you can close your account yourself. Both live under Profile → Settings → Your data, and neither needs our permission. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what each one does.
We may remove content or suspend an account that violates these terms, is spam, or is abusive. Moderation happens through the admin panel and, at this stage of the platform, is a judgment call by the team rather than a formal appeals process.
Posters, cast lists, genres, and similar metadata come from TMDb and belong to their respective copyright holders; Cholochitro Diary is not endorsed or certified by TMDb. Cultural notes, era categorization, and editorial writing are our own.
A film page may show the score TMDb’s users give the film, with the number of votes and a link to the film on TMDb. It is their users’ average as TMDb reports it, not a review by us or by critics, and it is separate from the average of diary members’ ratings.
The Cholochitro Diary name, logo and design are the property of Cholochitro Diary and may not be used, copied, or represented as your own without written permission. See the project's LICENSE for the full terms if you're looking at the source.
Cholochitro Diary is provided "as is." We're a small, actively-developed platform. Features get added, bugs get found and fixed, and we don't guarantee the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. We're not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of the site, to the extent the law allows.
We may update these terms as the platform evolves. Material changes will be reflected in the date above; continued use after a change means acceptance of the update.
These terms are governed by the laws of India, with disputes subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Hooghly, West Bengal.
